Industrial Ecosystems Inc. offers its Systematic Bioremediation technology for the cleanup of spilled petroleum hydrocarbon. Systematic Bioremediation uses a very innovative approach to bioremediation that is passive in nature and highly reliable. The technology can be used "ex-situ" on excavated contaminated soil or petroleum materials or "in-situ" by injecting microbes and air into the soil without having to excavate the soil. Treatment times are typically in the 90-120 day range. Systematic Bioremediation is used for routine treatment of tank bottoms, production pits, spilled tank product, and refined products such as spent crankcase oil.
The science behind Systematic Bioremediation is 100 percent natural and has been around since life began on Earth. Yeast, fungi, protozoa, and bacteria make up the natural microbes that are known as nature's recyclers. These single-celled organisms naturally exist in common soil and are master decomposers. Just as mold will gradually consume a loaf of bread, certain microbes in the right conditions also will consume petroleum products.
While spilled petroleum products will degrade naturally over time (referred by the environmental community as "natural attenuation" and often requiring decades or longer), IEI has enhanced the natural process to provide very rapid clean up.
